South Carolina's 6th U. S. Congressional District (blue on map)

Does the 6th District seem to be cut up a good bit?

It takes in parts of the Columbia area, parts of the Charleston area and bits and pieces of several other counties. The district is huge -- 6,926 square miles. For comparison, the entire state of Connecticut is 5,543 square miles.

Why would that be?

Perhaps it is because of a deal cut in the early 1990s between the Democrats and Republicans to create a majority Black district. The district leans heavily Democratic (Cook Partisan Voting Record is D+14). This "deal" appears to be simply a scheme to institute racial segregation -- a new version of Jim Crow.  It seems to be gerrymandering at its best.  Check out the deal!

Did that "racial segregation" happen?
Look at the population numbers from the Census Bureau:

Notice that Blacks make up about 24.4% of South Carolina.
In each district other than District 6, Blacks make up 25% or less.
In District 6, Blacks make up the majority: 45.98% according to the Census Bureau.
The "racial segregation" or "Jim Crow" deal still seems to be on!

This racial segregation basically guarantees Mr. Clyburn will be re-elected.
How else could he win an election here in the "Corridor of Shame," District 6?
